Urgent Electrical Repairs in London

Enquiries before 4pm, Monday to Friday, get a same-day response, with same-day attendance where the job and diary allow. Later enquiries are answered the next working day.

Some electrical problems can wait for a convenient appointment. Others cannot. A burning smell from a socket, a consumer unit that trips the moment you reset it, half the house dead, or a scorched light fitting all need attention before they turn into a fire or leave you without heating and hot water. We prioritise urgent work across Greater London from our base in East London.

Most urgent call-outs come down to a handful of causes: a failed appliance pulling an RCD out, a loose connection that has started to arc and overheat, water getting into an outside light or junction box, or an old rewirable fuse board that cannot cope with modern loads. The job is to find the cause quickly, make the installation safe, and then fix it properly rather than just resetting a breaker and hoping.

We carry the test equipment and common parts to complete most urgent repairs in one visit. If a full repair genuinely needs parts on order or a bigger piece of work, we make everything safe first, explain what we found in plain English, and give you a written price for the follow-up before we leave.

What's included

  • Making the installation safe

Our first job on arrival is to stop the danger: isolating damaged circuits, disconnecting failed accessories, and confirming with test instruments that what remains live is safe to use overnight.

  • Proper fault diagnosis

We test rather than guess. Insulation resistance, continuity and earth loop readings tell us whether the problem is an appliance, an accessory, a cable or the board itself.

  • Repair on the spot where possible

We carry stock of common breakers, RCBOs, sockets, switches, pendant sets and 6242Y twin and earth cable, so most urgent faults are repaired in the same visit rather than left for a second appointment.

  • Honest advice on what comes next

If the fault points to a wider problem, an ageing board, perished insulation, a DIY alteration that needs undoing, we tell you straight, with a written quote and no pressure to book anything.

  • Certification for the work done

Repairs and replacements are tested to BS 7671 before we re-energise, and you get a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate where one applies.

How the job runs

  1. 1

    Call or message us

Tell us what happened, what tripped or failed, and whether anything smells hot or has visible damage. If anything is burning, we will talk you through isolating the circuit straight away.

  2. 2

We confirm the visit and price basis

You get a clear call-out and first-hour price before we set off, so there are no surprises when we arrive. Urgent work is prioritised in the day's schedule.

  3. 3

    Make safe and diagnose

On arrival we isolate anything dangerous, then work through the circuit with test instruments to pin down the actual cause of the fault.

  4. 4

    Repair and test

We complete the repair, replace damaged accessories or cable, then dead test and live test the circuit to BS 7671 before putting it back into service.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough and paperwork

We show you what failed and why, hand over any certificate that applies, and put any recommended follow-up work in writing so you can decide in your own time.

What it costs

Urgent repairs start from £95, which covers the call-out and the first period on site including diagnosis. Most urgent jobs in London land between £100 and £300 depending on how long the fault takes to trace and what parts are needed. A failed socket sits at the bottom of that range; a burnt-out junction buried in a ceiling sits nearer the top.

We confirm the price before any repair work starts. If diagnosis shows the job is bigger than an urgent repair (for example the board needs replacing), we make everything safe within the original price and quote the larger job separately, so you are never committed to more than you agreed.

Urgent repair: your questions

My RCD keeps tripping and won't reset. What should I do before you arrive?

Unplug everything you can and try resetting once more. If it holds, plug appliances back in one at a time to find the culprit. If it still trips with everything unplugged, the fault is in the fixed wiring and needs testing. Leave it off until we arrive.

Is a burning smell from a socket an emergency?

Yes. It usually means a loose termination is arcing and heating up, which is a genuine fire risk. Switch off the circuit at the consumer unit, stop using the socket, and get it looked at as a priority.

How much does an urgent electrical repair cost in London?

From £95, with most jobs finishing between £100 and £300. The main cost drivers are diagnosis time (a hidden fault takes longer than a visibly burnt accessory) and parts. We confirm the price with you before repair work starts.

Can you always fix it in one visit?

Most of the time, yes, because we carry common breakers, accessories and cable. The exceptions are obsolete parts that need ordering or faults that reveal a bigger problem such as a failing board. In those cases we make everything safe first and quote the follow-up in writing.

Will I get a certificate for the repair?

Where the work involves replacing accessories, breakers or sections of cable, we issue a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate with the test results. Like-for-like repairs are always tested before we re-energise the circuit.
